                     Analysis And Critique Of Islam

Listen, Muslims will try to tell you to look at the similarities of "our" faiths:

A. What Do they believe about Jesus?

They present Jesus as a miracle-working prophet, and even acknowledge His virgin birth, but they obviously would deny Him as the Son of God.  They deny He died at all, least of all for the sins of the world.  They would make Mohammed more prominent than Jesus.  Refutation:  The Bible teaches Jesus is God (John 1:1; 5:18; 10:30; 20:28; Colossians 2:9; Philippians 2:1-8).  Jesus is immortal (Hebrews 13:8) and sinless (Hebrews 4:14).

B. What do they believe about Salvation

Mankind is depicted as weak and "prone to error" but Islam denies that man's nature is sinful.  People are capable of submitting to God's laws and attaining His standard.  According to Islam, "Man does not need a Savior, but guidance."  As a man practices the teachings of the Koran and obedience to Allah, he will earn eternal life.  Refutation: The Bible clearly teaches we need a Savior (Romans 5:8).  It also teaches we have a sin nature, and by nature are evil - not good (Romans 3:10; 3:23).  The Bible also teaches that Christ's work on Calvary is a finished work, done for us (Ephesians 2:8-10).

C. What do they believe about God?

The Muslims perception of God is very different God as revealed in the Bible.  Islam portrays God ultimately as unknowable.  In the Koran, Allah apparently reveals what he whats but now "who" he is.  Neither is he ever portrayed as having love in any way, nor as a father to his people.  As I said the Koran/Islam's view of God is completely different to what the Bible says.

Refutation:  Islam is a "crafted" religion.  They took pieces of other religions and "stirred" them up in a pot to get what they got.  Many of Islam's "ideas" are biblical ideas.  Unfortunately to witness to these people is very difficult.  As they will not even open and discuss the Word Of God with you - they believe it is a perverted "Jewish/Western" book.  Deep hatred for Christians/America/The Jews is a barrier between us and them.  We must pray for the love of our God - Jehovah God, to penetrate their hearts and reveal truth to their misguided and deceived lives.

                                What Islam Believes

A. Six Basic Articles

  1. There is no god but Allah.
  2. Belief in angels and "jinn" - (spirit beings capable of good and evil).  Above the Jinn are angels of god.  Two are believed to occupy every Muslim, one on the right to record his good deeds and one on the left to record his evil deeds.
  3. 104 holy books.  Chief among these are: Law given to Moses; Psalms given to David; Gospel given to Jesus; Koran given to Mohammed.  Mohammed said the Bible had been tampered with by Jews and Christians.
  4. Belief in god's prophets.  According to Islam, god has sent a prophet to every nation of the earth to preach the message that there is only one god, Allah.  124,000 have been sent, most of them unknown but some of them biblical characters (they would include Jesus in this).  Mohammed though, is the prophet for "all times" - the "seal of the prophets."
  5. Belief in predestination. All things, both good and evil, are the direct result of the will of Allah.  Islam is a fatalistic religion.
  6. The day of judgment.  Those whose good deeds outweigh their bad will be rewarded with paradise; those whose bad deeds outweigh their good will be judged and punished.

 B. The Six Pillars of Islam

  1. Reciting the creed, "There is no god but Allah, and Mohammed is his messenger."
  2. 17 cycles of prayer - five times of prayer per day.
  3. Almsgiving.  2.5% of income to be given to the spread of Islam.
  4. Fasting, during the month of Ramadan.  (Forego all food and liquid in daylight hours.)
  5. Hajj, or pilgrimage to Mecca - Every Muslim must take one trek in their lifetime.  This attempts to unite the Muslim world.
  6. Jihad, those outside of the Muslim faith are brought into the fold.  Jihad may be by persuasion, or by force, "holy war."  The fact that any Muslim who dies in a holy war is guaranteed his place in paradise is a strong incentive!
